Hema Malini's Younger Daughter Ahana Deol To Make Acting Debut in a Karan Johar Film, Also Will Mom in Another Film

Hema Malini and Darmendra's younger daughter Ahana Deol to act in Karan Johar produced film, and also direct her mom in a film whose script she’s written herself.

Ahana Deol With Sister Esha Deol at One Of Their Dance Performances at The Indian National Music and Dance Festival in Mumbai on November 20, 2010.

Hwma Malini and Dharmendra’s youngest born Ahana Deol seems to be wearing many hats. No only would Ahana make her acting debut in Vikram Motwane’s film, news is out that Ahana will direct her mother, veteran actress Hema Malini, in a film she has scripted.

Ahana is giving the script a finishing touch.

“Ahana has been secretly writing a script specially for me. When she finally showed it to me, I couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. So yes, Ahana’s film will be my next production. We are so starved for good scripts. Why would I not give her a chance? It’s her gift to me,” says the proud mother Hema Malini.

Though Malini is tightlipped about Ahana’s acting debut, we understand it’s a film about a dysfunctional Sindhi family. It’s called Muqablo and will be produced by Karan Johar.

Apparently, Anurag Kashyap is co-producing the film, and production house UTV is also on board.

This is ironic since Ahana had always maintained that she would not follow her sister, Esha’s footsteps into Bollywood.

“My younger daughter is always surprising everyone, including herself. Yes, she has changed her mind about not acting,” laughed Malini, when asked about Ahana’s change of heart.

However Dharmendra seemed blissfully unaware of his daughter’s plans. He had recently stated in an interview that Ahana would “never” act. Ahana's half brother Bobby Deol too, recently while speaking at a promotional event of his film ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’ had quashed the rumors saying that Ahana has no plans to enter into Bollywood.

Meanwhile, Malini’s film, Tell Me Oh Khuda starring older daughter Esha, is ready for release. “Unless the distributors want us to add another song — we have five songs in the film — we’re ready for release. We could’ve released in February immediately after Dharamji’s Yamla Pagla Deewana. But there’s the World Cup, so we’ll wait.” The mother lights up with pride when talking about Yamla Pagla Deewana. “It’s such an entertaining film.

When people say they love the song, Main jat yamla pagla deewana, I like to remind them that Dharamji sang it for me in Pratiggya 36 years ago.”

Dharmendra Acts With Daughter Esha Deol in Hema Malini’s Tell Me Oh Khuda

This is one scene everybody must look out for when Hema Malini’s 'Tell Me Oh Khuda' releases.

The scene is picturised on Dharmendar and his real life daughter, Esha Deol... yes, this film’s all in the family. And the dialogue has Esha telling Dharmendra, “You’re the best father in the world.” To which Garam Dharam’s emotional response is, “... and you’re the best daughter in the world.”

Dharmendra With Daughter Esha Deol

When the cameras rolled and the scene got underway, Esha broke down uncontrollably when her father said his dialogue. And Dharmendra, who is a big softie in person — his tough image on screen notwithstanding, joined her as tears welled up in his eyes as well. Unit hands who were stunned, touched and embarrassed by this emotional baap-beti scene, said that “only Hemaji kept her composure”.

Esha, who is working with Dharmendra for the first time, admitted that doing Tell Me Oh Khuda was as much a nightmare as a dream come true. “Mom’s really strong,” said Esha, “it was an emotional moment for her as well, though she didn’t show it.” She was surprised to learn that Dharmendra has never relied on glycerine when it came to shooting tearful scenes. “But that day was special, with me thoda zyada ho gaya, something just gave way and I cried. Maybe it was those words that I had bottled up inside me and wanted to say to Dad all these years,” admitted the young actress.

They are shooting in Goa and this break had brought the family closer than ever before. Dharmendra is now planning a holiday with Hema and their two daughters. Only Ahana is missing, she’s busy with her new boutique, but will join the family after the shooting. Dharmendra said, “Working with Esha, I was doubly emotional since this was the first time I was seeing her acting... and that too with me.” Initially, he was reluctant to accept this role, but Esha persuaded him. “One can never say no to one’s children,” said Dharmendra. And the fringe benefits are a holiday with the family in Goa and boys’ nights out with old colleagues Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna who are also in Hema’s production.

Ahana Deol To Hit the Racks with Her Label Happy Hippie

Hema Malini’s daughter Ahana Deol has turned dress designer and is ready to hit the racks with her label Happy Hippie

Just when everyone was waiting for Ahana Deol to make her directorial debut, the 23-year-old surprised everyone by coming up with her own clothes line. She says over the phone from Goa, “I am planning to open a store that will have clothes, bags and shoes designed by me. It will also have a small coffee shop, stock cakes, chocolates, and furniture designed by my friends. I am looking at a sort of a mixture.”

Coming from a family of Bollywood stars one would assume that designing is an alien concept for Ahana. However, she seems to be very confident. She says, “Designing happened to me by chance. Everyone knew I was working on my directorial debut.

However, at times creative energies just flow towards different formats. That’s exactly how I got into designing. Also I would go out shopping and wonder if there was an interesting twist to the clothes. I think I am a designer later and a shopper first.”

Ahana has not yet decided on the location of the store. She is scouting for places in Bandra and Juhu. She says, “It is very expensive to find a good place in Mumbai. Real estate prices in the suburbs have skyrocketed. We need a relatively large space.” For this moment she works from a workshop in Goregaon where she designs the outfits.

Describing her collection, which is called Happy Hippie, she says, “My clothes are western – skirts, tops and dresses. They belong to the era of the 60’s primarily – the advent of the mini-skirt look. I have also designed a lot of waistcoats. They have all been inspired from the Victorian Era. I haven’t designed anything Indian yet, but I have an idea of what I will be creating. I have also used an amalgamation of fabrics such as khadi, cotton, silk, linen, velvet, cotton and satin.”
Ahana says she hasn’t’ drawn inspiration from anyone for her collection. “I don’t follow any trends or fashion weeks. I don’t know any designers or look at work and make notes. I have just followed my instinct and now I am all set to debut as a designer.”

Teaching Amma: Esha Deol Teaches Mom How to Ride a Scooter

It was a sight that the Goans won't forget in a hurry. To bring in her birthday on November 2, Esha invited her mom Hema Malini and sister Ahana to Goa where she is shooting for Shivum Nair's Exchange Offer. Esha decided to have fun with her mom. "I taught her how to ride a scooter. Ahana and I know how to. But mom doesn't."

B'day fun
In the mood for fun with her two daughters, Hema let herself go on her daughter's birthday. Says Hema, "Both my daughters know how to ride the Scooty. I didn't. It was great fun. I'm rediscovering my childhood with my daughters." Hours later, Esha does a recap of the day, "It was just the three of us me, Mom and my sister. By some sad coincidence, I'm shooting for almost all my birthdays. Last night too, I shot the whole night. But I did cut a cake on the sets."

That apart, having her mom and sister over is the best birthday gift Esha could hope for. Papa Dharmendra called. She says, "He also sent me a very nice watch that mom and he have gifted me together. It's a very chunky and sporty watch. The small jewellery watches tend to get lost on my wrist. So I specifically told my parents what I want. Better to be clear beforehand than to go wrong with the gift, no?"

Hema Malini's Daughter Ahana Deol is Now into Dress Designing

Esha Deol's baby sister now designs her own line called The Freeway Collection

Until recently, Esha Deol's sister Ahana wasn't sure about what she wanted to do with her life. Though acting was never an option, Ahana seemed interested in the behind-the-scenes aspects of filmmaking like editing and scripting. But now, she has now settled for a completely new vocation.

Main bhi designer

Hema Malini's pretty younger daughter is now into dress designing. Says Ahana's proud didi Esha, "For the last six months, Ahana has been planning and designing her own line-up of clothes. And now she's ready to hit the racks. She has named her range The Freeway Collection. She has around seven workshops in Mumbai and is very taken up with her job."
Phew!Needless to say, Mama Hema, papa Dharmendra and sis Esha are all for the youngest Deol's vocation. Papa Dharam never wanted his daughters to go into acting. Now that the apple of his eye, Ahana, is into a stable non-filmy working atmosphere, the entire clan has heaved a collective sigh of relief.
