There were whispers in the industry since June 2008 that Vinay Pathak and Sonika Sahay’s seven-year-old marriage is in trouble. They have now filed for divorce.
A visit to the Family Court in Bandra revealed that the divorce was filed on June 30, 2008 and registered on July 15, 2008. Vinay and Sonika had their first hearing in the court on July 29. They also had a counselling session after the hearing, but to no avail. The next hearing is on January 6, 2009.
Our source said, “The counselling session did not work. Vinay has filed the petition and Sonika is the respondent. Now, the case is under Petition F, hence it is divorce by mutual consent.”
Sonika, who was recently seen in Zee TV’s Parivaar, took a long break after the birth of their two daughters, Vasudha and Sharinee.
Vinay Pathak, best known for his role in Bheja Fry got his first big break when he was chosen as a veejay in Channel [V]’s stand-up comedy show, House Arrest with Ranvir Shorey. But it was the comedy film, Bheja Fry which made Vinay a household name. “Ironically, problems between Vinay and Sonika started only after Bheja Fry released,” said a source.
